deville strap and water

Hi,
I'm thinking of getting a Deville coaxial, probably the Chronograph, when I got down to the Caribbean.
My question may be stupid, but here goes anyway.

I love watches that are at least 100 meters water resistant, which this watch is, yet what will happen to that beautiful strap if I go swimming with this watch ?

The reason I like water resistant watches is because I like to wear them all the time, even when at the beach/pool.

Will I ruin this strap by taking it swimming a few times a year or should I better wear another watch for swimming ?

Otherwise, I don't understand putting a nice leather strap that is not water resistant on a watch that definitely is.

Thanks for any advice/input.
