: I assume you are talking about one of the
: current Seamaster GMT models - either the
: white dial, black dial with two-tone bezel,
: or blue Bond co-axial model.
: One way to tell if you are successfully winding
: the watch is to listen to the watch as you
: wind. Hold it close to your ear, and when it
: is fully wound you will hear a clicking
: noise, which is the overwind protection
: mechanism engaging (it may take 40 turns or
: so to hear this). At this point your watch
: is fully wound. As long as you hear that
: noise and the watch isn't stopping on you,
: then your watch is fine. If not, then you
: probably have a broken crown.
: Good luck,
: John
Thanks a bunch John - I've probably been a bit overcautious in winding it. (It's a '98 50th anniversary seamaster GMT with a black face) It's having a service as we speak and I've been told that they strip it down completely (could be sales talk!) so hopefully any issues will get picked up. I'll try it out as soon as it comes back. I've got my heart set on a speedmaster pro now so I'll probably alternate the two.
