Re: Omega Speedmaster Day-Date
In Response To: Re: Omega Speedmaster Day-Date ()

: You are exactly right, that's my watch. Any

: to find a comparison between the two watches
: (Seamaster v. Speedmaster). Also, what are
: your thoughts on the Day-Date versus the
: other Speedmaster models (especially the
: Professional). Thanks so much.

It looks like your model was in production from 1993-1999. As for a comparison between it and the Seamaster Pro, these are two extremely different watches. The Speedy Day-Date is not meant for swimming or diving, but it has a chronograph feature that is lacking in the standard Seamasters. The Day-Date is essentially a smaller, automatic version of the Speedy Pro that also has the day and date features. The movements are dramatically different, as the Day-Date is based on an ETA/Valjoux automatic movement, while the Speedy Pro is based on a Lemania manual-wind movement. So, if you prefer a smaller watch that isn't manual wind and also tells you the day and the date, then you made a good choice. If you really want a watch for swimming or diving (or if you want to play James Bond), then you should consider buying a Seamaster Professional. If you are a NASA/space enthusiast who wants a true "Moon Watch", then the Speedy Pro is the watch for you.

Omega makes so many different watches for so many different purposes that you have to consider what's most important to you - water resistance, automatic vs. manual wind, date function, day function, size, weight, etc. One watch may not be enough....
