: A friend of mine recently told me that Omega
: has struck a deal with Costco, agreeing to
: sell their watches at the discount chain.
I would say with almost 100% certain that your friend is wrong. Omega does not sell to Costco or any other discount merchandising chain. They get their watches through ADs who dump watches onto the market. Omega seems to be turning a blind eye to this right now, as they are still making money on the deal regardless who sells the watch.
Any watch bought from them would be considered "grey market" Omega would not honor the warranty, but would perform work on the watch if its a legitimate Omega watch, for a small fee, of course. So the chance one takes is are you willing to pay less in the hopes that the watch will not need warranty work that could cost more than the savings. Bottom line is that there are AD's that sell at or near these discount prices and you get the watch covered by the full warranty. You just need to bargain a little for it.
I have seen several watches at Sams, including a 2254.50 last weekend at my local Sams. They were selling it for about $1500 or so. You can get it for the same price from an AD, so there is no benefit to anyone from buying it from there.
