Polishing the scratches out of a plastic crystal is dead easy.
I originally wanted a Speedy with a saphire crystal. I bought one with a hesalite crystal. I don't regret it. I have bought other speedies since then. they ALL have hesalite crystals.
Oneday I may have a saphire speedy, but it is no longer very high on my wish list.

The speedmaster case with the saphire crystal is NOT the same as the case with the hesalite ( plastic ) crystal. You maybe able to get the crystals from somewhere, but they won't fit in the "wrong" case. It has something to do with the way the crystal is fitted into the case.
