PloProf Isofrane straps - Questions

Hi Guys,

Some of you may remember the price that some PloProf Isofrane straps recently fetched.

PloProf rubber madness

I saw an auction a few weeks ago & put a minimal bid in on it ( not expecting to win ) & Blow me... I WON !!

Sometimes you just get lucky !

This is what I got...

I was quite excited about the auction for a number of reasons.

1, look at the top 2 rubber "strips".... now look closely.... these cannot be fitted to a watch via a spring bar. These are divers EXTENSION pieces for the Isofrane strap. I have never seen these before.

2, the 3rd rubber strip is a "normal" strap part.

3, Now look at the top 2 again.... imagine you removed the buckle & fitted the "buckle" end to a PloProf with a spring bar... it WILL fit :-) So, I could actually use this as a "Normal" strap & extension piece..... My PloProf is complete !! ( 'cept a box )

4, the buckles are the original 70's buckles ( not new replacements)

5, the "retaining rings" ( on the right) are the correct shape for the 70's

There is no doubting that these are genuine 70's items.

There is howevere a slight "problem". Some of the rubber parts are VERY tacky & stretchable ( so much so that you can't wear them ).

Do we have any "rubber" experts in the house ? ( I am expecting Sam to reply to this .... :-) ) Is there anything I can do to remove the "tackiness" of the rubber ?

I wondered about soaking them in warm water with washing up liquid. I also have an Ultrasonic cleaner, I could let them "bounce around" in there for a while.

Any other suggestions ?

I have to add. I was pretty excited about the auction ( even if I hadn't won it ). I have never seen these extension pieces mentioned anywhere before.

( But I bet Sam has something similar in a nice shade of Yellow ! )

S.
