The Seiko automatics I have seen do not allow manual winding or hacking; the only dislike I have with them. You have to wind it by shaking it- that can be annoying. The SMP automatic can be wound by your movement or when it has run down (power reserve of 44 hours) can be manually wound. Get the automatic for sure. It is a great watch. I've ordered my third SMP this week-stainless steel, blue dial, new style bracelet. I can't wait!
