I bought a SMP quartz over a year ago mainly because of a discussion I had with my dealer(Watches of Switzerland in Glasgow, re service costs.

My dealer was quite honest in telling me that I would have to replace my battery every 3 years but that it would be much cheaper to replace a battery than the routine service costs of the mechanical equivalent.

He also said that if I dropped my watch (which I am prone to doing after a whisky or three!!) or knocked it hard then if I had a mechanical watch it would most likely need recalibrated.

The other thing was accuracy, The quartz is dead accurate and mine gains about 1-2 seconds every 2-3 months! You can leave it off for a week, pick it up and wear it without resetting time etc......by the way if you constantly have to keep resetting the time on a mechanical watch, surely that can`t do the winder seal any good?

Whatever you choose......enjoy...its a superb watch...you won`t be disappointed.
