New Arrival **Pics** Posted By: JohnK Date: 12/13/07 21:53 GMT

After much searching, I have FINALLY landed a cal 321 Speedmaster... a 105.012-65, movement # 24005279. It's in un-restored condition and without a strap, but there's definitely a beautiful watch under those scratches and dirt. It also has the "two slope" caseback, which I am very excited about. It's running well, the pushers are crisp and the chrono resets dead on.

Here are some quick pics and a couple of questions for the experts:

1. The scratches might not polish out of the crystal...what is the correct crystal for this watch?

Any Hesalite Moonwatch crystal will work. Get an Omega one, but they are all the same.

2. I am not will to pay the going rates for an NOS bracelet, so what strap looks nice on a vintage Speedmaster?

I'm rather partial to the Hirsch Windsor, but just about any strap looks good. I've got my CK2915-3 on a $6 Timex plain black leather strap and I think it looks fine.

3. The minute hand is in rough shape...leave it or replace it?

I probably would. Keep the originals though.

4. The tachymetre bezel insert is also fairly rough?

Yes, it is.

Are the replacement ones the same font?

I doubt it.

Do they look correct?

No one except an expert or a forum regular will notice, and even many of them might miss it. If the looks are important, replace it and keep the original, otherwise if you prize originality, keep it the way it is.

Don't overanalyze it too much.

Thanks,

John
