I agree 100% with Steve's comments about sniping from the buyer's perspective. That is exactly the way I do it. On occasion, I have received profanity laced e-mails from bidders who were sniped by me....These were mostly from eBAY newbies and I am sure they sniped the next auction they bid on. It is all part of the game.
Now from the sellers perspective it might be a different story. Many sellers want to have a low starting price with no reserve - to attract more bidding. The problem begins when they have an idea of what they want for it and the price is not even near with a few minutes to the end of the auction.... I, for one, will not place a bid with a seller that pulls items for this type of reason.
I think that most sellers knows that there will be bidding going on at the last minute and have learned to adjust their expectations accordingly.
