I have read various thing about the PloProf over the years.
It's my understanding that Omega never made a "left hand" PloProf ( ie one with the crown at 03:00 ). I have never seen it featured or mentioned in any period advertising or brochures.
"Everyone" knows that you cannot get original datewheels for PloProfs. This "proves" to me that the datewheels are NOT the same as normal datewheels for 1002 ( or 1012 ) movements. So this backs up the claim that the PloProf date wheel is NOT a normal 1002 datewheel. So, This in turn backs up the claim that if you take a Ploprof to pieces & rebuild it as a "left hand" or "Inverse" version, The date will not line up in the date window, for some of the dates. Or conversely that if you build a "normal" ploprof using a "normal" 1002 datewheel , The date will not line up in the date window, for some of the dates.
I think that the left hand version only started to appear after the datewheels became unavailable & so the only way to get the date to line up properly, was to build it as a "rare" left hand version.
Obviously if anyone can provide a period photo (e.g. Cousteau or one of his diver colleagues ) or a brochure / advert stating / showing that Omega offered these watches, I'll have to consider my stance on this subject.
But until then, I don't believe that Omega made any left hand versions.
As to the Omegamania version .... There was a blatant fake SM300 (Lot # 128 ) in that auction ( authenticated by Omega )...... The Bezel on the "Speedmaster Alpha first generation" ( lot # 202 ) was from the 1987 "Broad Arrow reissue" - lot # 20. ( again authenticated by Omega )...... The dial on the "grail" ( lot # 223 ) was the wrong dial. ( again authenticated by Omega )...... The dial on the "D case" ( lot # 183 ) was the wrong dial. ( again authenticated by Omega ) ...... There are more examples .....
So , IMHO, the fact that Omega has authenticated the watch, doesn't prove that it is 100% original.
