: As a prospective 1st time buyer of an Omega
: Quartz...possibly a Seamaster, was wondering
: if there were any opinions on this watch and
: Omega Quartz in general.Reliability,accuracy
: etc. To be honest I am also contemplating
: the TAG Aquaracer quartz but like the
: lineage of Omega. Any informed opinion
: appreciated.
Hi CM,
I purchased an SMP mid size black/black quartz just over 3 years ago and havent got a single complaint against it! One of the complaints which has been levelled against it is the fact that the second hand does not always land on the markers, which I can appreciate but it hasnt reduced the enjoyment of the watch in anyway for me.
This is currently my only watch and thus is one of the reasons why I purchased quartz over automatic, due to the increased levels of reliability, accuracy and toughness of the movement. I wear it 24/7.
However, I am now looking to purchase an auto, most likely from the Speedmaster line.
I am not an expert by any means, so just passing on my thoughts and limited knowledge to you. With regards to accuracy, I have absolutely no complaints. I cant tell you how accurate it is to secs/month, but i have never yet found a need to adjust the time due it being slow/fast. However, you will also probably find the same with regards to a £20 Casio. In otherwords, any quartz should run to within any sane persons accuracy requirements.
I guess what I'm trying to express is that the movements between 2 quartz watches are a lesser concern to the overall package than if you were comparing an Omega/Tag auto. Both (unless you are very unlucky and get a lemon) movement wise should more than adequately meet your requirements and thus it is more on the asthetics, craftmanship, finish etc between the 2 watches you should be placing a higher level of importance on with regards to your decision.
I do not know the Tag model, but the most important thing is to take time looking at them both, preferably together and decide which of the 2 you like the most over all, for whatever reasons are most important to you.
Sadly, I cannot remember who gave me this advice when I first came onto this forum so I apologise to whomever it was, but it is a great piece of advice so I shall pass it on....

Good luck!
