When I decided to buy my Omega Seamaster recently, I too looked on the internet and found many discounted watches. I thought this would save me some cash as I'd decided which model I thought I wanted.
I went along to an Omega Jeweller in the end because a) I didn't know if I could trust a web retailer, and b) because I wanted to see what the watch actually looked like in the flesh and on MY wrist before I bought it.
As it happened I ended up buying a different model Seamaster to the black face/black bezel one I'd planned - (I bought the 2000 model, ss,new strap, blue face) because I felt it looked better on ME.
I suppose I could have tried them both on, made my decision, and walked out - wasting my jewellers time. But he gave me good advice, adjusted the strap - not an easy task on an Omega- and made me coffee. For me the extra few pounds were worth it for the trust element, and knowing I will get exemplary after purchase service. I suppose when buying a very personal item like a good watch I tend to value good old fashioned customer service over saving a few pounds.
