One other very important factor that has not been mentioned is maintenance. With the auto expect an overhaul every 4 to 5 years and that can be quite expensive. Also, if you only have one watch and auto is fine. I have a dozen of them and 90% of them are quartz. Very simple for me to pick the watch of the day and voila with quartz I am done. With the auto I have to reset the time and date a real nuisance. Of my dozen or so watches only 3 are autos. I would not consider the purchase of an auto if the watch in question was also offered as a quartz.

: Get the auto...It has a soul.
: Seriously, get the watch that makes you
: happiest. I prefer autos because I don't
: like the idea of having my watch opened just
: to change a battery. I also dislike the fact
: that quartz watches don't tick as well as
: the "hopping" second hand. I
: prefer the tick and the sweep.
: Of course the quartz will be more accurate and
: it will cost less. The decision is yours.
