you realize, of course, the SMP meets all your criteria:
1. I'd like a brand that has history.
History, yes Omega has history. They did make the watch used for the Appollo missions.
2. I'd like a watch company that creates respected
timepieces.
Omega is quite respected from what I have seen.
3. A timepiece that is appreciated by people that know about watches
Omega is appreciated by people that know watches. If you get the Sub, you must face the fact that many people will question the authenticity of your watch. Rolex is oft maligned by peopl who know watches becasuse of its pricing controls, horrible service, and sub par accuracy.
4. I am a successful business person
and desire that my watch reflects my
success.
I think the SMP will do this nicely
5. The watch has to be less than
$5,000.
The SMP auto can be had at retail for $1750. Shop around and you can get it from authorized dealers for around $1150 (35%). That's what I paid for my Bond SMP. Get the Sub and you will pay roughly 3000+. You could get 2 SMPs for that and still have $700 left over.
In the end, you should do what will make you happy.
