Re: Quartz vs. Automatic....More Thoughts

: ACCURACY. The quartz watch is going to be
: much more accurate (probably within a second
: or two per month) than an automatic.

Well stated. Although I would like to mention that quartz accuracy is typically not that exceptional. Usually it's quoted to be w/i 15 seconds/month. There are exceptions. Some expensive Omega (what am I saying? all Omegas are expensive :) and Seiko quartz watches that get 15 seconds of precision in a year.

In terms of maintenance, I was told that even higher-end quartz watches should be cleaned when you replace the battery. So, wouldn't this again be an advantage for the mechanical? Omega quartz movements typically have 7 or 9 jewels in them, right?

I really admire the sweeping second hand of a mechanical watch. The *one* thing I do like about quartz watches is that it offers capabilities like multifunctions (alarm, chrono, perpetual calendar) at a fraction of the cost of a mechanical.
