: Hi. took a vintage omega quartz in for battery, was told that the
: movement was shot, they told me that they could put in a
: replacement movement by eta and the watch would function . They
: said that the original parts are no longer available and that
: this is an accepted practice.
: They did this to me before on my wifes gp watch only difference is
: they converted it from a mechanical to a quartz... any comments
: or suggestion would be appreciated
Well, it could be the truth as some of the older omega quartz watches are no longer being serviced by Omega. I suggest you send the watch to an authorized Omega repair center for them to make that assessment. Can you post a pic of the watch? You probably have a couple options here. If Omega can repair it it will probably cost you several hundred $$. Only you can determine if its worth the cost of the repair. Omega will not perform service without providing you with a quote first. If indeed Omega won't service it then you can either source a watch with a working similar movement or have your watchmaker fit it with the newer ETA module. If this happens, be sure to get the original movement back from him as someone else may be able to use some parts from it.
You may also take it somewhere else and have the battery changed out to make sure the service guy is not feeding you a line of bull. Has it been working recently?
