Re: IS MY WATCHMAKER TELLING ME THE TRUTH

: Thank you all for the info, i took it to a local mom and pop type
: jewelry store in alabama where they also work on watches, they
: did tell me that if time and money was not an object they could
: probibly locate the ness. parts, they did also say that this
: particular omega was nothing special and was not worth really
: sinking several hundred dollars into it . the estimate for this
: "heart transplant" is approx. 100.00. it is a nice
: looking watch and i wear it only as a dress watch so to me i
: guess it is worth it, i am not a collector or anything like that

Can you post a picture of the watch or give us the case #s from inside the caseback? Might go a long way to help us help you determine if it has any monetary value. Of couse only you can determine sentimental value. Is the watch Stainless, or gold ot gold plated? Does it have the original bracelet? Your "watchmaker" may be indeed right about the value of the watch, but the repair costs could be something minor for a competent Omega watchmaker for a couple hundred. Personally, I would rather pay $200 to properly fix it. A complete overhaul may get you closer to $400-500 and I probably wouldn't recommend it, but I would certainly seek out another opinion. A heart transplant usually is best performed by a heart specialist, not a general surgeon. From your area, I would probably recommend sending it to Womble watch works in atlanta, an Omega authorized repair center. Ive heard good things from them. They will give you an estimate of repair, but if you don't have the work done, they will charge you a nominal fee for their time. I think $40 is the "diagnosis" fee which is waived if the work is done there.

Get us some info on the watch first and we can sorta help you from there.
