Re: Traffic down at all watch forums - how many watches boug

: Call this my "op-ed" piece for today

: As I stroll around the internet watch forums, the traffic on most
: is way down.

: I think I am stating the obvious and somewhat uncomfortable truth:

: Most posts on watch forums are --

: -- look at what I bought
: -- look at what I am thinking about buying
: --can you explain what I bought.

: I just don't think any of us realized just how much of a majority
: it was, or how many fewer watches are being purchased this year
: versus last. I feel a little discomfited to realize I -- and
: everybody else -- was really just being that boastful about our
: new "babies".

: Comparing the first half of 2009 to the first half of 2008, we are
: down 38% in the number of posts.

: So, I compared the number of watches I bought in the first half of
: 2008 to the first half of 2009:

: 6 in the first half of 2008
: 1 in the first half of 2009

: How about you? What do you think about the number of posts you are
: seeing and how it relates to the number of watches purchased?

: And how many watches did you buy in the first half of 2008 versus
: 2009?

: I think I am onto something . . . what do you think?

Hi Sam. Yep, you're on to something. I have seen the number of posts fall with the economy, no new watches, no new posts.

However, for some of us, post count hasn't changed. Why, you ask? I have never posted a:
"This or that"
"What would you do"
"expain my watch"
"Help me pick a new watch"
Not saying there is anythng wrong with posting these questions, there's not. But, every watch I've purchased, I knew what it was,
knew how to operate it, and made my own decision on what it was going to be. Now I have posted a few "look at my new watch". As a
matter of fact, I really like those types of posts. I enjoy seeing someone offer to share their pride and joy with me. And I also
enjoy seeing someone obtain something they have saved and worked had to own. They should be proud.

One other thing: When we were chatting this morning, you mentioned that Jan had made a statement something like: "When people look at
new watches that people have purchased, it makes them want to go out and buy a new watch" or something to that effect. After some thought,
I'm going to have to disagree with that analogy. At least as far as I'm concerned. Looking at someones new watch has never tempted
me to purchase. But that's just me. I think you're right in the reasons behind post counts in watch forums, or any forum for that matter.
But, I think the underlying reasons really have more to do with the economy than anything else. The post count is just a by product of
a crappy economy, that, or everybody is scared to death to spend a buck. Which still speaks to the economy. Cool thread........David
