Re: Help with Speedmaster 861 Mid 70's ?

: Hey Everyone
: I recently got both my speedies that were service in Europe stolen
: in the mail upon arrival in the US. Long story short and painful
: claim later, the insurance paid back ( some, quite a loss on the
: value and the sentimental value and unique straps are gone ... )
: I d like to know if anyone could help me date this one, from the
: scripting / font and shape of the SPeedmaster and " T Swiss
: Made T " I would say early 70 to mid 80's ? Is there a way
: o get a more accurate era befire i pop it open. I will try when
: i meet the person to buy it but the tool I ordered to pop the
: back open may not make it on time to do so :( I m wondering if
: these circles / groves in the chrono dial are an indication of
: the age / era as well. Never seen that before on mine. I know
: the year doesn t really affect the value since it s a moon 861
: anyways but it s more that I m looking ideally for a 73 like my
: 861 was, now if it s a late 70's will do as well. Can t be too
: picky. I can t afford to replace my 321 for now anyways ...
: I know the bracelet isn t the original either but that s ok, I will
: put a racing leather on it anyways, i m not fond of the original
: one.

But the most reliable answer is to open the watch. After all, dials, hands, bezels and casebacks can all be changed.
