Re: 1990s yellow gold ladies omega
In Response To: 1990s yellow gold ladies omega ()

: Hi,

: I found this forum whilst searching desperately for any site that
: might sell or have information about a watch I was bought for my
: 21st. I sold my Omega watch (foolishly) years ago and really
: want to get hold of one again. I simply cannot find this watch
: anywhere and hope that you can help. The only information I can
: give is the following;
: - it might be from the 'de ville' style as I remember the strap
: being like those in this range. The face was rectangular with, I
: think, a gold face and it had diamonds for numbers on the face
: (can't remember if they were just at 12, 3, 6 and 9 or if they
: were all the way around). It was solid yellow gold. I was given
: the watch in 1992.

: even if somebody could forward a picture, or at least give me the
: name it would help me in trying to search for it.

: Many thanks.
: Hazel

You don't give us much to go on. Omega has made literally thousands of models of watches in an over 160 year history. As most collectors favor mens watches, there is less information available regarding ladies models.

In addition, your query, while quite worthy, is different than most we get where someone is trying to identify a typical watch that they have or are looking at purchasing. You are seeking to identify the watch you once had so that you then can locate it.

Well, all is not lost. What do we know:

-- Omega
-- collection = Deville (probably)
-- movement type = quartz electronic analogic (meaning with hands, not digital) I will assume
-- era = 1992 or thereabouts
-- case metal = gold (14k or 18k, yellow or white)
-- case shape = rectangular

It so happens Omega has an extensive online database of their vintage watches. Now this database is far from complete, and is continually being updated based on queries from owners. It has the added merit of being free of charge.

http://62.73.172.167/cu_vintage/main.php

It is in the process of being updated, and may be a bit hard to get to.

If the above doesn't work, go to http://www.omegawatches.com/
Then go to Customer Service
http://www.omegawatches.com/customer-service/vintage-watches
This then directs you to the Omega Vintage Database (OVD), although it does not use that term

You will have to sign up for access to the OVD, but it is free -- and it is by far the best tool for you to complete your task

The OVD search screen has several fields you can search:

-- full text search
-- collection
-- caliber number
-- reference or case number
-- movement type
-- case material
-- case back type
-- case back material
-- functions

The ones you reliably know are highlighted in yellow. I didn't include case material for a reason I will explain below.

The OVD is quirky due to the many variations of watches Omega had. One must be cautious in your searches.

Only one of the case metals will be listed on the entry, say "stainless steel". But the watch may have been offered in 14k yellow gold, 14k white gold, 14k gold capped, 18k yellow gold, etc.; these variations are listed in the "More Product Information" section of an actual entry.

Thus, searching by case metal can cause you to miss your watch unless it happens to be the metal the OVD entry creator chose to list.

Select "Deville" from the "drop down" list in the "collection" field
Select "quartz electronic analogic" from the "drop down" list in the "movement type" field

When you complete a search, you get a results screen with the following fields << note the fields may not have a heading identifying them>>
:

-- case or reference number (this is the key field and the way to identify your watch most reliably)
-- collection
-- model name
-- case material
-- year from

This listing is not going to help you find your watch -- it is only "basic data" about these watches, and doesn't show you what they look like, and is not sorted in a helpful way.

The designers of the OVD anticipated your issues! They provided a choices for the "sort" or order in which entries are presented, and provided a way to view photos of the watches instead of the "basic data".

At the top of the search results it has two "drop down" fields labeled "Sorting:" and "View:".

Change the "Sorting:" to Year From
Change the "View:" to Lightbox 3 X 4

You will then have 12 images (if one is available for the watch) per page of all the quartz Devilles that are in the OVD, in order of when the records indicate they were first offered. Hopefully, you can find your watch by reviewing these photos.

Let us know how you do!
