Yes Brian, it is a 562 movement and having tried your tip to no avail as you say the crown on this watch only winds up the watch and adjusts the time. I went into the vintage Omega site and the number dates it as a 1965 watch.
A good inducement not to take the watch off when at the correct date setting ! Thanks for your advice
