For the answer to the NUMBER #1 most frequently asked question here--for details or value of a specific older Omega watch you have--go to: Tell Me About My Omega. | Learn more about How To Include Photos and HTML In Your Postings. | To contact someone with a question not relevant to other readers of the forum, please click on their email address and contact them privately. |
You are right that it might give an advantage to authorized dealers. But keep in mind that Omega IS NOT LOSING SALES either way. Only the authorized dealers lose sales over this issue.
Omega makes the watches, then sells them to distributors, who then sell them to the dealers. So Omega makes their revenues off all their watches regardless. What happens to the watches AFTER Omega has sold them to the distributors on the way to the end customer does not change the amount of revenue Omega makes.
But providing labor and parts for warranty service is a direct cost to Omega. Extending the factory international warranty period would apply to all of the hundreds of thousands of watches they make each year and distribute worldwide.
That would cost Omega a significant amount of money--yet won't make Omega one more penny in revenue!
So as you see, it really is NOT Omega's problem, but one that belongs to the authorized dealer network. That's why some of the authorized dealers are battling it with their own warranties.
