No, I couldn't find anywhere on their site that they remove serial numbers either. I suspect that publicly stating that would create legal problems for them. But when I called and had a 30 minute conversation with a very knowledgable saleswoman, she told me up front that the serial number had been removed and explained why (although I already knew why, it was reassuring to hear her being honest about it).
With the help of the voluminous information provided by zOwie on Chronentric I was able to ask many very specific questions to ensure that the watch authentic and new. Maybe someone got your old watch, but it wasn't me! :)
