Ironically I use my $20 Timex digital to check other watches and time E-bay auction endings; it is accurate to about one second a month. Isn't that incredible? Still I'm enough of a purist to appreciate a well-made automatic movement. Sort of like a good old classic automobile.
If you have a short wave receiver, you can tune in WWV, The National Bureau of Standards, on 2.5, 5, 10, 15, and 20 Mhz. Different frequencies come in at different times of day.
