Someone in Britain recently indicated they paid 650 GBP for the same watch (around $955 USD)and was thrilled at the low price they paid. As Derek has indicated on a number of occassions, the list prices and available discounts vary from country to country and are not always related directly to exchange rates.
This is true for a number of commodities. While the current status may be different, for a number of years European tourists in the USA purchased European pressed CDs here because they were cheaper then at home. Go figure.
