We have heard that Omega made the change to the new style bracelet because they wanted consistancy in their "Sports" lines - the Seamaster and the Speedmaster. This new bracelet it more similar to the traditional Speedmaster line which only has 5 sections across the bracelet rather than 9 sections on the Seamaster bracelet. Omega US opposed this move and requested the older, more refined (supposedly) style.
