Re: gray market
In Response To: gray market ()

I bought my SMP from Ashford.com this week for $1020.00 with all of the goodies (leather case, etc.) and a true serial number under the seven o'clock lug. I e-mailed Omega.ch with my watch information and this is what I got back from Omega:

We thank you for your message and inform you that your Omega Seamaster watch
- serial number (Private) - reference 2531.80.00 - was manufactured and delivered to our Agent in Croatia on November 27, 2000.

We sincerely hope that you will treasure your OMEGA watch for many decades
to come.

With kind regards,

OMEGA Ltd

: Hi,

: First off, i bought my watch from
: worldwatches.com. I thought they had good
: service, gave me a lower price than ashford,
: and had what I wanted. Now I find out that
: ashford leaves serial numbers on their
: watches. I am not sure if this is something
: worth paying $125 more for. So, I am looking
: for opinions. I think if my watch broke, I
: would take it to someone who was local to me
: and I could see have it, not ship it away. I
: wouldnt send it to omega. So, would I still
: have to worry about the serial number issue?
: Just because ashford leaves the serial
: numbers on, does it really matter? There is
: the supposed legal issue, but besides that,
: if I sent a watch that I bought from ashford
: to omega, who supposedly doesnt return them,
: would I get it back? I didnt buy from a
: registered dealer if I got it from ashford,
: it is still gray market. The only
: differeence was that the number wasnt
: scratched off.
: Also, what about insurance issues? I dont
: insure my computer or other $1000 items, and
: things like that dont really have a serial
: number, because I built it from individual
: parts. But, Id think that I could make a
: claim for the computer if it was stolen. Is
: it the same way with a serial number-less
: watch? I have the receipt, papers, and box,
: but no serial. If I bought a timex and my
: house was rodbbed and it was taken, all Id
: have for that was a receipt, no serial
: number.
: I am just trying to figure all this out, so I
: appreciate any info anyone would give.
: Thanks

: JMH
