Confused re manual winding of automatics...
Hi,
I've been researching the SMP 2531.80 for some time but have a question about the "automatic" winding of this watch, because I will only be wearing the watch on an irregular basis. Obviously, I understand that automatic watches wind themselves, but is it not also possible to manually wind them at the crown, if the watch hasn't been worn for a week, for example? Have checked out Derek's page on this site and I quote:
"Automatic watches operate quite differently. Since they have the capability of winding themselves, they also need protection against overwinding. So all automatic watches are equipped with a gear that disengages when the spring is fully wound. The advantage is that it makes it impossible to overwind an automatic watch. "
I get the impression from this quote that manual winding is possible with automatic watches, so this includes the SMP 2531.80, right? Can't understand why I've been told that manual winding is NOT possible with this watch, by someone who actually owns one! Any explanation appreciated - cheers,
Jack
