Derek,
I read the section involving serial numbers. You stated that it is possible to determine a "year" within the same model? I was looking at a brand new 2531.80 Seamaster from an authorized Omega dealer and noticed the serial number in the "800....." series. Is it reasonable to say that for the 2531.80 model Seamasters, they can be possibly dated from inception to present? However, I understand your point about model differences. There was a Seamaster Chronograph there too, but the serial number on that was a "632....." series. I doesn't mean it is an older model, but rather the most up to date number for that series. Am I understanding this correctly? My brother's 2531.80 is a "600....." series serial which he bought new in '97-98. Do you know what number began the series? Was it 600? or were their 500's or even 400's? By the way, I really appreciate this site. All this accurate information on Omega watches, particularly the Seamaster. It's the ultimate information source. Keep up the excellent work.
