advice on Sub vs SMP

I am considering the SS Rolex Sub and the SMP 2254.5. I am aware of the basic differences including price and name recognition. However, I would like opinions on the real differences i.e. construction quality, fit & finish, and overall appeal. I am leaning towards the SMP mainly based on price and the apparent similarities in quality and appearance, however if there is real value in the higher price of Rolex I am willing and able to pay.
