Just saw a mid-60's Seamaster 300 auto dive watch at my favorite local jewelers' (reputable watchmaker). Regret I have no scans at this time. Omega cal 552 24-j mov't SN 24717863. Model # inside caseback 14755-61. Unusual markings on case back: in addition to the typical "Seamaster," "Certified High Pressure Waterproof," monster and Omega logo, it says this:
"U.S. NAVY SEALS 7-1966 CAREI"
This engraving appears original and matches the rest. Don't know if this was "military issue" or a commercial version.
Watch is in pristine condition, must have sat in a drawer most of its life. Very clean SS case. Black bakelite bezel is as new--none of the usual fading or delamination. Luminous on dial markers and sword hands is evenly yellowed but intact. Embossed Omega logo on crown. The lugs seem slightly longer than others I've seen.
Has anyone ever seen one like this, and know what it might be worth as described? He quoted me $1,500 and said they were "very rare." This guy has always been a straight shooter with me. Any information or references would be most appreciated.
