: I would have to say not true, I have a 14K rose gold Seamaster with an automatic caliber 353 movement that was manufactured on May 16, 1952 (confirmed by OMEGA via trace of the serial number). I have had the watch for the last 8 years and have had it serviced twice since then (normal maintenance). The watch is in great shape aesthetically, and it runs excellent (still within COSC standards). I also have a newer OMEGA, a titanium Seamaster Professional Chrono, and am expecting to have the same results with it. Good luck with whatever choice you make!!
