Good advice on brand, but a caution on resale...
In Response To: (1) Omega, (2) Blancpain ()

: If you can afford Rolex, consider a discounted
: Blancpain instead. Although possibly not as

Excellent advice! There are many other watches worthy of consideration in the same price range as the Rolex.

: (Of course, resale on Rolex is hard to beat.)

I cringe every time I hear someone say that. That perpetuates the *false* perception that a Rolex is always a *safer* financial buy than competing watches.

Reselling your Rolex *can* be a safe and profitable arrangement *if* you know what you are doing both when you buy it and when you resell it.

But way too many novices that do *not* know what they are doing take such statements as blanket assurances that, whatever they do, they will gain more (or at least lose less) money at resale time if they buy a Rolex over any other brand--which is completely false!

It is quite possible for a novice to *lose* much more money on buying and reselling a Rolex, even despite the true statement that "Rolex has a higher resale value as percent of retail price."
