The Panerai Luminor Chrono or Marina is next on my list to buy. I currently own an Omega SMP, Rolex Seadweller, Zodiac and Seiko Divers automatic. I have taken all 4 diving at one time or another and all have performed fine. I have gotten sand wedged up under the SMP bezel though, which I consider to be a fatal design flaw in a diving watch.

You will want something rugged and good looking. The Panerai watches have been used by the Italian military for years, including on deep sea diving expeditions. The original Panerai watches used Rolex movements. Prior to making watches, Panerai is best known for making depth guages and compasses.

All in all, you will have a unique watch that not many of your fellow enlistees will be wearing. You will pay less than for a Rolex, but probably more than the Omega or Breitling. Personally, I think they are awesome looking and their functionality should serve you well throughout your naval career. I can't wait for my first dive with a new Panerai!
