I'd stay away from a purchase from outside the U.S. I tend to be litigation-minded, but can tell you that if there are problems they are unlikely to be readily or easily resolved and you certainly increase your chances for getting taken, with little recourse. It is tough enough to resolve disputes in a different state, international makes it nearly impossible. For such a purchase I would advise going through a reputable U.S. based source. Generally firms that are publicly traded are more financially stable and typically will resolve problems quickly and effectively.
As a side note, the SMP is a fantastic watch. I've had mine since just before last Christmas and couldn't be more pleased. I also got very lucky, my automatic is accurate within 10-12 seconds every 2 months.
Best of luck!
: I'd be scared also- you just hear too much
: about cons on the bay. My two cents is to
: keep in mind that feedback can be easily
: contrived. Perhaps go to the Rolex forum on
: Time Zone
: (http://www.timezone.com/index.html) and ask
: if anyone has dealt with him, and then try
: posting on "Good guys" and
: "crummy deals" here:
: That's Watchnet- they have a good running
: dialogue of good experiences as well as bad,
: and in both forums you'll find some real
: Rolex pros (beware- some of whom can be
: abrasive snobbish asses who can turn you off
: of this brand.)
: Hope this is of help. You are doing the right
: thing. When I bought my SMP I learned a hell
: of a lot here, and then by visiting some
: other forums. Homework pays off!
: Happy hunting!
