: I have a MINT early 70's constellation
: Is it in fact waterproof, i.e water resistant ?
No older watch--especially one over 10 or 15 years old--should be considered waterproof or even water resistant anymore.
Water resistance is NOT a permanent feature. It depends a lot on the watch and its seals staying in excellent condition. It may have been water protected when brand new, but it has aged a lot since then and likely will fail if used in water.
For more detail, read the Chronocentric article on Water Resistance in the WATCHES section.
