The Quartz Bond SMP is a great watch - by no means inferior to the auto. It's also more robust and accurate and won't require the same level of servicing that an auto requires.
You're right - the easy glide of the sweep second hand of an auto watch looks great. But consider the number of post's on this forum which relate to brand new auto's performing erratically from straight out of the box. Have a look also at the posts reporting servicing nightmares experienced by some unfortunate owners. This may help you decide.
