Yes. Hesalite is a fancy name for acrylic.
Even better than buffing is a product called Polywatch--which is for use *only* on plastic watch crystals. It does an excellent job of polishing out scratches with only a couple of minutes of hand rubbing. I've used it on the acrylic crystal of my older Rolex and on several other watches. You can get it from www.ofrei.com among other places.
