: I have a very good quality scanner but have not
: been sold on the quality of digicams costing
: less than £2000.
I discovered that a digital photo of 1200x1000 pixels will print an 8x10 image in about equal quality to a 35mm film print done by an average processing lab. I've used ShutterFly.com to order the photo paper prints of my digital photos in up to that size and have been amazed at the results.
Sure, the quality is certainly not up to the full potential of 35mm film, but even the older 1-megapixel cameras are quite sufficient for normal non-professional photography. Very few people ever blow up their photos more than an 8x10.
And the ability to take a near infinite number of pictures at virtually no incremental cost won me over. I had stopped using my 35mm cameras due to the frustration of mediocre photo processing and the $1-a-shot cost.
I've found the Nikon digital cameras to be a superb choice for the film-experienced photographer who decides to go digital too.
