Seamaster ID question

Thanks to ER for reminding me of this forum (question originally posted to alt.horology):

I have recently come across an Omega Seamaster automatic that I am seeking some information on. I am a newbie to watches.

This is an older, plain seamaster. I am a little concerned as this watch has a snap-back case without the seamaster logo. It has day and date at 3:00 (usually I have only seen date), and automatic movement (marked 1020). Inside of case back has number 166.0209. Omega signature on stem, crystal (center, visible with loupe), and bracelet.

Bracelet is SS, and seems cheap for Omega. It has Omega stampings, "No. 12", and 3-79 stamped into it.

I'd like to know about when this watch was made, if it's an Omega worth owning, and what it's approximate value might be. Frankly I feel the watch seems cheaply made (snap back case, bracelet). Where (if anywhere) would the serial number be?

I very much appreciate any help you can provide, including pointing me to references for this information.

Thanks in advance,

Ron
