Can I use the GMT bezel for timing?

Hi!

I'm considering of buying the Seamaster GMT as it doesen't have a helium release valve. However,it's equipped with a bi-directional 24hr bezel instead of a diver bezel. Does anyone have practical experience of using this kind of a bezel for timing purposes? Diving is out of the question because of safety reasons, but what about other instances? Is it really possible to make a quick calculation on the fly, e.g. 21hrs equals 20/2x5 min +2,5 min = 52,5 min?

Will there be a Seamaster Pro without the helium valve? There is the Jacques Mayol limited edition in Japan.
