The SMP crystal has a coating on the inside, but not on the outside. The story behind this is, that a coating is not as scratch-resistant as the crystal, so the appearance of the crystal might wear over time. Without coating, the crystal remains slightly reflective but should look like new forever. Time will tell if this claim is true.

That said, I'm not too happy with the reflexes either. But you could do worse (acquaint yourself with a Speedy pro if you've got some time to spare), and there is no solution to the problem, except auctioning off the watch on eBay of course.

I find it very comforting to have a crystal that virtually cannot be scratched at all. If that involves some reflections, well, tough luck. ;-)
