Thanks Dave - I think, however, I may have found a solution - because I agree with you that the loss of the hesalite crystal does imapct on the watches pedigree. Get this - last night I had a brain wave - a cotton bud (a q-tip I believe they're called in the states) put in my cordless drill so just the cotton is exposed and some plastic polish bought from my local car accessory shop - the results were amazing - scratch completely gone and the chip now only visable with the aid of a very big magnifying glass........you'll all be pleased to know that I am now talking to my wife again.
