Material of Face of Seamaster

I just got a Seamaster Pro and I love everything about it except one thing I'm not sure I love as much and that is the color/wave pattern of the face when looked at closely. It kind of looks like plastic up close. The blue isn't quite as saturated as I would like it either. I like the color of the blue color on the bezel better or the color of the royal blue faced GMT model. However, when viewed as a whole from a bit of distance the looks of the Seamaster are unbeatable -- even better than the Rolex Sub (and certainly better than the GMT which I think looks kind of 70's or something). The Seamaster has exactly the look I want. But I just wanted to get other people's opinion's of the blue face. Is it plastic? Why can't they use a sharp looking metal face wiht a nice sheen to it like other watches? The plastic cheapens the look when viewed up close. I wish the blue of the face was the same as the blue of the bezel which I think is really nice. What do you think? As for the seawave pattern, I go back and forth on whether I like that. Any thoughts?
