Re: Early Omega pocket watch
In Response To: Re: Early Omega pocket watch ()

Bert Thanks for the advice. As far as finding a competent watchmaker is concerned, it is not an option here in Kenya where I am located. I currently work and live in Kenya, though I am from the UK originally. I have been working here for 5 years. There is a fairly decent watchmaker nearby, but he doesn't do tricky stuff. Last week I asked him if he could replace a jewel in another watch from my collection, and that was beyond his ability. I have just sent the bridge, movement plate and escape wheel to a watchmaker in the UK to see if he can do the job. I broke the jewel when I was was trying to remove it to clean the watch.
There is definitely no one here who could replate a case. It's a good idea and I hadn't thought of it as a possibility. Please give me your Antwerp connection and I'll contact him.
I just did an on-line course in watch repair and I am collecting pocket watches which I am buying on eBay. I was in Ethiopia last week and I now have an antique dealer there looking for watches for me.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Regards
Jock
