In Response To: Re: First Omega AT Purchase ()

Jim:

I'll be purchasing an AT shortly from great AD referral I got through this board. However, I did a TON of research about Amazon.com in the past month and here's what I found:

They do sell directly. You can narrow your watch search on Amazon by seller, and Amazon does carry a limited supply of Omegas. The warranty is as good a gray market warranty as you'll find, and the serials are in tact. I even made about a dozen calls to their customer service before I got to speak to a guy there who deals with purchasing watches. They purchase in bulk directly from Omega ADs worldwide. He evaded the question of how recent the serials are, meaning there's no gaurantee that the AT you get hasn't been in a display case in a store on the opposite side of the globe since 2003 an possibly handled by hundreds of people shopping at that store.

Also, the Amazon guy gave me no detail or assurances about the watchmaker/repairer that handles their warranty claims.

FWIW, I decided on going with the AD based on the fact that he offered me a price very close to what Amazon offers, AD purchases come with the mfr. warranty, and this AD was able to promise me new inventory, not a 4 year old watch that just hasn't been purchesed by a consumer yet.

The only thing I'm waiting on is for me to decide on a dial color...I change my mind daily! I'll make my decision shortly and share the pics once I get my new AT.

: Amazon does not sell Omegas directly. They
: provide a service much and will direct you
: to a non AD for purchase. This works in the
: same way as you are buying a used book. This
: is commonly REF to as the Grey market.

: I would strongly suggest buying a new watch
: from an AD because you get the Omega
: warranty which you will not get over the
: internet. My advice is go to Omegas site and
: start calling AD's in the cities I mentioned
: and find the best price availabe.

: Good Luck
