... but I've noticed that if I leave it

The power reserve is only about 40 hours. If it stopped after 2 days that is normal.

1) Wear it at least 8 hours a day with only minimal hand movement and you should have no problem...and it should never need winding. Winding down does not hurt the watch, but constantly hand-winding and screwing down the crown will wear the crown a little prematurely.
In short, the watch was meant to be worn...not looked at in a box. Wear it and it will work fine.
