Railmaster 2512.52.00, 3301 movement issues Posted By: Dave H Date: 10/16/07 21:08 GMT

I was considering the Railmaster 2512.52. I had read old posts in other forums regarding problems with the Cal. 3301 movement. Have these issues been fixed?

It's really hard to say. Omega says they have been shipping all F. Piguet movement family models with revised parts since 2004, however there continue to be many problems reported.

Here is a post on the topic I made over at Watch-U-Seek a week or two ago:

Greetings, Professor Falken. A strange game. The only winning move is not to play:

Any thoughts on the superiority/durability of this watch versus the speedmaster moonwatch (aside from the obvious differences such as manual versus auto and the cert. chronometer).

That's pretty simple... One, The Speedmaster, is the watch chosen by NASA for it's astronauts to depend on for well over 40 years when they are up to 235,000 miles away from any assistance. The other one has a movement which has lead a very troubled existance [at best] throughout it's life.

For some confounding reason, rather than continue a partnership with Lemania which had been productive since the 1930's Swatch/Omega decided to team up Omega and Fredric Piguet around the turn of the century. While Lemania makes chronographs reknown for their reliability, durability and ability to withstand rough use, they went with Piguet... Here's a passage on what other's have said about F. Piguet:

Piguet movements were already infamous for being fine, but delicate.:

I wish anyone who does take the plunge with any of these movements the best of luck, I truely do. But expecting surprise or much sympathy from me if said purchase goes south might not be especially realistic. Just so y'all know...

Buy what you want, not what anyone else does.

Also, a referral to a reputable, low cost AD would be appreciated.

Check your email...

Many thanks!

Hope this helps!
