Re: Which Speedmaster to Get... (more)

DLim,

Yours is a complex question that I can only begin to address.

There two basic types of Speedmaster: The Professional and the Automatic.

The Professional is the manual wind version commonly known as the moon watch.

The Automatic series watches feature some type of automatic chronograph movement, normally a derivative of the 7750.

There are just a few consistencies. All Speedmasters have 30meter water resistance, a factor that some feel detracts from the line. Almost all Professionals have acrylic crystals, almost all Automatics have synthetic sapphire crystals.

Within these two groups are even further variations and options. Taking a look through the catalogues of one of the big online discounters (Ashford, World of Watches, Wristwatch.com, etc) will give you a feel for the entire line. Enjoy. The chase is the best part of the hunt!
